24th October 2009 - The Forest Camp - Warby Range State Park

Located about 21k North West of Wangaratta and reached by travelling along Boweya Rd and then North along Camp Road is Forest Camp Camping area. This level, shaded, well laid out camping area has a large shelter shed, tank water suitable for washing, a long drop toilet, picnic tables and wood fire BBQ’s. There are several bush walks including Spring Track that is an easy walk for anybody and takes you through an Iron Bark Forest with low new growth bushes. Wild flowers are scattered throughout the area and there are plenty of birds for birdwatchers. The dirt track to the campsites is very good with few corrugations. We enjoyed our stay here over a weekend and had no visitors either day trippers or overnighters.

21st October 2009 - Edi Cutting Camp Area

This beautiful camping area on the banks of the King River close to Edi, approximately 10k South Of Moyhu and about 14k North of Whitfield has numerous camping sites all in close proximity to the river which is excellent for trout fishing. During our stay, the river was in partial flood and we could not access the prime part of the area, however, the local ranger informed us that it was much better than where we were at the northern end of the park. Long drop toilets are the only facilities provided in this level, well grassed area that is extremely popular during the holiday season... We recommend this location for an extended stay if in the district.

14th October 2009 - Casey Weir Area - Benalla

10k North West Benalla on the Midland Highway is Casey Weir and a large, level rest area beside the creek. Several of the sites are on the creek bank with shade and there is a large open area away from the creek. A couple of bins are the only facilities that are available at the camping site which is about a 200 meter walk to the weir. A small boat ramp suitable for launching canoes is there for those that like to have a bit of a paddle.

The track along Simmie Road is OK with some pot holes that need to be taken with care. Two long drop toilets and picnic tables are in the park which is popular during the school holidays.

1st October 2009 - Nyah Harness Club Camping Area

Behind the Nyah Harness Club on the riverbank is a level, well shaded camping area where, if you are fortunate enough, you will have a ringside seat to some pacers doing whatever pacers do by floodlight for about an hour or so on Wednesday night. The camping area is on the river bank and there are large, level, grassy sites near a boat ramp. On the town side of the track is a large area nearer to the toilets, fresh water and a dump point which is also suitable for camping. Nyah is a RV Friendly town and shops are located on the main highway or a larger selection at West Nyah about 2k from the Highway.

26th September 2009 - Manangatang Rest Area - Manangatang

Between Ouyen and Tooleybuc is the village of Manangatang that has a large gravel area opposite the hotel between the main street and the railway line that is the location for the Manangtang Rest Area. Although only one tree is in the rest area, the new facilities make up for any deficiencies. A new disabled hot shower, new toilets, a shelter shed, tank water and free power have all been made available to the camper. The local general store has great take away meals and is recommended.
