14th October 2009 - Casey Weir Area - Benalla

10k North West Benalla on the Midland Highway is Casey Weir and a large, level rest area beside the creek. Several of the sites are on the creek bank with shade and there is a large open area away from the creek. A couple of bins are the only facilities that are available at the camping site which is about a 200 meter walk to the weir. A small boat ramp suitable for launching canoes is there for those that like to have a bit of a paddle.

7th October 2009 - Christies Beach Campground - Echuca Regional Park

Located about 8.5k East of Echuca along the Echuca / Bangerang Rd and Simmie Road is Christies Beach Campground on the banks of the Murray River. The track along Simmie Road is OK with some pot holes that need to be taken with care. The camping sites are plentiful, level, shaded on the river bank with steps cut into the bank for easy access to the river for swimming and fishing. Two long drop toilets and picnic tables are in the park which is popular during the school holidays.

4th May 2008 - Major Creek Reserve - Nagambie District, Victoria

This camping area, beside Major Creek is well shaded, level, has tables, long drop toilets, and easy access to the creek for swimming, boating and fishing. Divided into two sections, we found this an ideal place to spend a few days. Access via Mitchellstown Road off the Goulburn Valley Highway, 6k south of Nagambie is along a sealed road. However, an 8 t. limit applies to the bridge. Unfortunately, we found piles of rubbish left by campers and although well signed re taking your rubbish with you, this was obviously ignored by those too lazy to do the right thing. These people will be the first to complain when the site is closed to day visitors and over night campers. We spoke to a Ranger who told us that rubbish was a problem and it happened far too often. We can’t emphasise the slogan “DO THE RIGHT THING” enough to ensure we have ideal camping sites in the future.

25th April 2008 - Lockington - Echuca / Rochester District - Victoria

ANZAC day saw us at Lockington, a small village with a population of about 400. On arrival we were greeted by Des Pentreath at the Business Centre who gave us a tour of the interesting points in town including the Fountain, Locky-ness Monster and the Community Centre. A new powered overnight rest area is in the centre of town and has spotless amenities. Lockington, on the weekend closest to ANZAC day, is the venue for the annual Vintage Tractor Rally and visitors from far and wide bring their “Boy’s Toys” to provide an entertaining weekend. Two of the exhibits were fascinating with Ken Hall’s water wheel, made from huon pine and is built on the same design as the water wheel at Upper Yarra Reservoir Park and Wal and Ellie Wilcocks’ miniature setup powered by a Blue Stratton Poormans Girder Engine. If in the district, call in and say G’day to Des and enjoy his hospitality.

21st April 2008 - Greens Lake Recreation Reserve - Vic

This vast lake has access for campers virtually all around the perimeter. Located 16k west of Stanhope and 24k east of Elmore the camping area has tables, plenty of shade, a large bin and septic toilets. For the fisherman, there is a boat ramp and, according to the locals, yellowbelly, cod, red fin and carp are regularly caught. The lake is deep in spots and the sandy shore completes the picture. Although popular during holiday time, during our stay the camping population reached 5.
