4th September 2009 - Yaapeet Beach - Lake Albacuti Regional Park

Located about 4k West of Yaapeet and 12k North of Rainbow beside the lake which is unfortunately dry at this time, is Yaapeet Beach camping area. In the lake area itself, there are plenty of level, well grassed, open camping sites and around the lake there are a couple of tables, wood BBQ’s and a multitude of open and shaded sites. The toilet is a long drop and a water tank has some water which is suitable for drinking. A small beach has white sand with some shade and would be a great spot to spend a hay hour when the lake had water. During our stay we spoke with some members of a Caravan Club who were going to attend a rally at nearby Lake Hindmarsh. We trust that they will enjoy their meeting.

23rd March 2008 - Lake Lonsdale Campground - Victoria

Between Horsham and Stawell, Lake Lonsdale, is about 15k North West of Stawell and reached by taking a turnoff 8k North West of Stawell along Sandbar Road. Near the boat ramp is a large well shaded area suitable for camping and is within easy walking distance to the lake. Once again, there was no water in the lake and it looked as if it had been dry for a long time. Another place to return to when it rains again (if ever)

This site is not listed in Camps Australia Wide No. 5

20th March 2008 - Hynes Reserve - Rocklands Reservoir

Located 63k South of Horsham along Hynes Road is Rocklands Reservoir Camping area which has powered and non powered level camping areas. The toilets, unfortunately, have been neglected and require a lot of cleaning to make them reasonable. The hot showers ($0.10) may or may not work. There appears to be plenty of usable water providing it is boiled before use. There is also a tank adjacent to the toilet block. The lake was dry during our stay and the boat ramp was high and dry. It appears that this place would be popular during good times as there were a considerable number of permanent sites established around the camping area. All signs had been removed so we were unable to find out the cost of powered / un-powered sites. We may try this camping area again after the lake has been replenished and the area has been cleaned up.

18th March 2008 - Cherrypool Highway Park - 49k South Horsham

Approximately 55k North of Cavendish, Cherrypool Rest Area is a large, well shaded rest area with toilets, limited water and located beside the Glenelg River. A lack of rain has stopped the flow of the river but ponds adjacent to the rest area support multitudes of bird life. We recommend this rest area for a day or two in the current climate but would recommend staying longer in a more favourable climate. There are good sites in cleared areas away from falling branches.
