23rd August 2009 - Port Albert Overnight Rest Area

Port Albert, located South of Yarram on the Victorian coast has an overnight rest area for self contained vehicles right on the bay front. Adjacent to the boat ramp and toilets, this tar sealed, level area is virtually in the middle of town. A short walk to the local hotel, fish and chip takeaway outlet along the concrete pathway that is on the edge of the bay is a pleasant way to spend a few hours. The walkway runs for almost a kilometer and has jetties reaching out into the bay. The time limit at this location is 24 hours, however, the Port Albert Racecourse and Recreation Ground allows camping and is not far from town on the road to Tarraville.

9th August 2009 - Port Franklin - South East of Foster - Victoria

Located at Port Franklin about 400metres East of Fishermans Way is a picnic area with composting toilets, water and level grassy areas. Further along this extension of Tramway Street are private jetties with car parking bays. To the right is a slipway, with a large parking area behind it suitable for most rigs. In this area, some old jetties provide access to the river for fishing. There is also a boardwalk that takes you through the swamp and back to the end of the road. Along the riverbank foreshore is a pathway that goes to the fish co-op and a lookout point. Port Franklin has no shops whatsoever and very few inhabitants. Unfortunately, there are no boat ramps as all access to boats are from the jetties.

4th August 2009 - Loch Memorial Reserve

Located about 1k North East of Loch, North of the Highway off Poowong Road is the Loch Memorial Reserve. This park is located within a short walking distance of Loch via the Swinging Bridge and an under the road tunnel that has placards of the history of Giant Earth Worms that inhabit the district. Provided at the Reserve are hot showers, clean drinking water, a shelter shed with electric BBQ’s, tennis courts and a track around the oval for exercise. Caretaker Barney is most helpful and encourages campers to stay at this location. Antique shops, a hotel, Post Office, cafe and a General Store are in town. We enjoyed our stay here and found the local people to be very friendly.
