27th September 2011 - Horseshoe Bend Camp

Approximately 2k North of Merbein in the Mildura District at the East end of town via River Avenue along a reasonable dirt road is Horseshoe Bend camping area. Near the boat ramp, there are plenty of level, shaded sites with a pleasant outlook of the Murray River. There are no facilities other than a composting toilet which is a short distance from the camping area. Should the boat area be full, it is worth a walk around to inspect the other sites further away from the toilet that are also suitable for camping.

Follow Ferntree Gully Road for about 8k along a reasonably good dirt track. 27th December 2010 - Lake Tooliorook - 6k South of Lismore - Victoria

Level, shaded camp sites overlooking Lake Tooliorook, septic toilets, hot showers, a boat ramp, swimming area, fishing, jetties, kids playground, town water, an on-site caretaker during the holiday season and not far from town. A great place to spend a week or two at this well cared for location. Turn South off the Hamilton Highway at Lismore towards Lake Tooliorook for approx 6k and turn along a dirt road for approx 1k to the Lake. There is room for about 40 Caravans / Motorhomes and even over the Christmas period, there was still room for extras. The lake has been replenished with trout after the long drought and should be a good size for the Easter Break.

19th December 2010 - Vaughan Springs Reserve – Castlemaine District – Victoria

Only 15k South of Castlemaine and 8k East of Guildford via Yapeen along Vaughan Springs Road is Vaughan Springs Reserve Camping and Picnic area. There is a dedicated camping area on the top level that is level and protected from the elements by pine trees and an embankment. There are also taps that has very brackish water and is not suitable for anything much at all. A short walk along the track takes you to a slippery dip (for big and little kids), and stairs that take you to the day picnic area, septic toilets, electric BBQ’s, tables, the creek, a weir, mineral spring taps and shelter sheds. We arrived just after the floods and evidence of the torrent can be easily observed. Bush walks are well signed and we were impressed by the amount of bird life in this locality.

The other sites are not listed in Camps Australia Wide

Campsite No 2 has a table and is smaller than sites 1 and 3.
The access to the river is not as good as Site 1.

Campsite No 3 has a pit toilet, and is a large level area with easy access to the river,
but not as good as Camp Site No 1

All sites have shade and very pleasant outlooks. Swimming and boating is permitted although fishing in the river is prohibited from September to November inclusive.

The tracks to the campsites are a bit rough but with care, and when dry,
it’s not too much of a problem
